What are Sadaqah Jariyah donations?
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah, knowledge which is beneficial, or virtuous descendant who prays for him." [Muslim]
Sadaqah Jariyah refers to "ongoing charity" where as long as a donation benefits others in this life then inshaAllah the donation will provide benefits in this life and the Hereafter to the donor and if applicable to a loved one in whose behalf the donation is made.
If you have any further questions about Sadaqah Jariyah donations, please see the PROJECTS page or email donations@al-irshad.org.
Can I make Zakat donations?
Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. If a Muslim has more wealth than the Nisab Threshold (i.e. 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver) then the person has to pay every year 2.5% of their wealth as Zakat. If you have any questions about calculating the amount of Zakat, you should contact your local Imam.
Zakat can be given to the following categories of people:
The poor
The needy
Zakat administrators
For bringing hearts together
To free those in bondage
For those in debt
For the cause of God
The stranded traveller
AL-IRSHAD currently has some opportunities to give Zakat to the poor and the needy categories only. If you have any further questions about Zakat donations, please email zakat@al-irshad.org.
